  • About 100 metres of USA and German national bunting decorate the area.

  • Stirrups Country House Hotel at Maidens Green provided the interpretative sign by the barn. This is very appropriate as our B17 floated past their grounds in the final minute of its landing. The sign was being made by Signpoint in Sunningdale.

  • Soil and ballbearings arrived from the Protestant and Catholic churches in Schweinfurt - see right - and other soil was gathered from Podington in Northamptonshire, where our B17 was based.

  • And we were shocked, shocked to learn that some has been bought back inadvertently from the USA.

  • The Reminiscence Groups at local libraries provided a solar-powered angel to act as a night-time beacon to any plane lost in the dark over East Berkshire

  • Cartridges from TWAAParrived from the TCAAP team in St Paul, Minnesota - together with some badges and a lovely card of the Vision of Peace statue there.

  • The Second Schweinfurt Memorial Association kindly volunteered to fund the seat, and a fine one came from Oaktree Garden Centre.  It carries a label that says it's been given to honour all former foes become friends.

  • New as a concept is the Thinks-giving Bench - with some cheery questions for children of all ages!

  • And here's some of the pre-launch local and USA media coverage

Michael Pfrang from St Josef's Catholic church in Obersdorf in Schweinfurt visited London in April to hand over some soil from the church (which was destroyed on Black Thursday) and some ball bearings made by the Schaeffler company in the city. He's seen here with a pin kindly sent by the Second Schweinfurt Memorial Association. He also went away with some soil from St Joseph's Catholic Church in Bracknell, and a $1 note as a token from the crew of #3351Z for his funds.

Ballbearings in place on St Josef's soil!

Hugh collecting the bottles of the 300-year-old breathing space gathered by the Junior pupils at this Quaker school in Somerset. One will go into the time capsule, and the other will be kept as a decanter with an infinite supply of breathing space.  The arrangements at Sidcot were made by Jackie Bagnall, Director of Sidcot's Centre for Peace & Global Studies (right) and teacher Nikki Havercroft.
