Arranging the rich cache of information unearthed in
researching Thanksgiving Field has been a major
challenge. The pages below show many diverse angles, anecdotes and accounts. It's all a bit like the Podington airfield home of our B17 above - where the Flying Fortresses stayed in their circular stands and were looked after well away from each other most of the time - before missions called on them to taxy out, line up on the main runway, and take off. Then they got in formation, in parallel but going in the same direction, and flew over the patchwork of fields in England and Europe (like ours here). So in each page, you'll find a lot of information and links and jostling for formation. Understandably, you'll find a lot of cross-reference, repetition and reinforcement. But you should find many things to surprise - and make you smile. On the left is the short version of the page headings, also placed for you early on each page. Happy readings! |
