    Guide to Reaching Out

For a few minutes anytime that suits during 13-21 May 2018

You’re welcome to modify or embellish these actions – maybe with words or songs or pictures – to suit your setting – classroom, hall, family home, office, club, church, videocall.

Keep in mind that it's a good idea to reach out to other schools in the world - or nearby - and invite them to join you. They in turn might pass things on and encourage even more to enjoy joining in a happy happening.

A sort of basic introduction

Monday 21 May is the United Nations 2018 World Day for Cultural Diversity.  So with many other schools we’re uniting in The Big Reach Out.  Together we’re all going to say and show that we believe in respect, understanding and appreciation of diversity and difference.  We’re also acclaiming all who give time to humanitarian work - helping those in need and being voices for the voiceless.  And as they include Meghan Markle and Prince Harry, we’ll be part of a big wedding gift that they’ll like.

1 WE WANT TO SHOW THE WORLD THAT WE TOO
VALUE AND RESPECT CULTURAL DIVERSITY IN ALL SORTS OF FORMS

We welcome what’s given to us by the differences in people; whether in nationality, race, religion, age, and gender; for example, in school and family and national life, art and literature, politics, music, sport, dress, food, education.

So shall we give everyone in the world a Big “Thank You”, spoken out loud in any language that’s different from our usual one?

YES!!!

(Here are a few you might choose from!)

WE ALSO WANT TO SHOW HOW MUCH WE APPRECIATE
EVERYONE INVOLVED IN HUMANITARIAN AID & RELIEF AGENCIES

These include field workers and volunteers in international or local NGOs; charities working or campaigning to help people in need; volunteers and supporters and wellwishers - and ourselves!

So shall we reach out  and say Thanks and Well Done with Big Applause?

YES!!!

3

WE WANT TO SHOW MEGHAN MARKLE & PRINCE HARRY
THAT WE CHERISH THEIR OWN HUMANITARIAN WORK

as examples and voices of hope, humanity and inspiration.

So shall we face in the direction of their wedding place at Windsor, and reach out to them by taking off our (imaginary) hats and saying a Big “Thanks and Well Done, both of you”?

YES!!!

4

AND WE WANT TO THANK EVERYONE REACHING OUT TO HELP SOMEONE ELSE -
AND TO SAY WE’RE WITH YOU, WHEREVER YOU ARE

So shall we do that by giving them all a really REALLY BIG WAVE?

YES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

(And, hey, maybe blow some XXXXXXXXX kisses too?)

The instructions are on an A4 page
available for you to download and
